Hope and Healing

Book: Genesis

Scripture: Genesis 3

If you haven’t seen Lord of the Rings, I highly encourage you to watch it. It is a powerful story of hope. Despite the battles and circumstances, the characters are constantly seeking something to save and help them. This theme of hope resonates deeply with humanity; we all want to believe that a good life is on the horizon. One memorable line in the film is ‘at the coming of the dawn, look to the east,’ symbolizing a promise of hope even in the darkest times.
Will you be so courageous as to believe in hope even amid chaos?
Humankind is hungry for hope, seeking it in various places, especially during times like election seasons. Politicians often make grand promises, but have they met all your hopes and dreams? Whether you look at past elections for Biden or Trump, the reality remains—politicians can’t fulfill our deepest desires. Elections are important, but placing ultimate hope in politics and governance is a fool’s errand. Instead, we should pray for leaders and policies that promote life and flourishing.
Genesis chapter 3 explains why our hopes can’t be fulfilled by earthly means. It highlights that we live in a world cursed by sin. Sin is the root of all brokenness, chaos, and evil. Whether it’s socialism, capitalism, conservatism, or any other ‘ism’, none have successfully addressed humanity’s core issues. These ideologies often promise harmony and solutions but fall short. This isn’t to say that having personal philosophies or political views is wrong, but our ultimate hope should not rest there.
Genesis chapter 3 prophesies the coming of a Savior—Jesus. He is the one true hope that can lift the curse of sin. Jesus is the answer to all of our failures, be they personal, corporate, or national. In John chapter 8, Jesus identifies two lines of humanity: those who follow the truth and those who follow the lie. The offspring of the serpent buy into the lie that God isn’t good and can’t be trusted. On the other hand, the offspring of Eve, who put their faith in Jesus, believe in His goodness and sovereignty.
The dividing line isn’t political or philosophical—it’s about lies and truth. Believing the lie leads to chaos and a misguided sense of control over our lives. But God, in His grace, breaks through these hearts and instills life. The battle between the offspring of the serpent and the offspring of Eve is already foretold, with Jesus being the one who crushes the serpent’s head. This prophetic picture points to Jesus’ ultimate victory over evil.
Isaiah chapter 7, verse 14, speaks of a virgin giving birth to a son named Immanuel, meaning God with us. This prophecy foretells the coming of Jesus, the offspring of a woman, who will crush the works of the serpent. What does Jesus bring? Isaiah 61 explains that He brings good news, healing for the brokenhearted, liberty to captives, and freedom for prisoners. When Jesus is our hope, we can rest assured that no earthly situation can shake us.
The next election or political leadership won’t guarantee world stability. Our hope isn’t tied to governments, careers, or even family circumstances. Our hope is anchored in Jesus. As children of God, we don’t have to live under the curse of sin. We can walk in confidence and carry the hope of Jesus wherever we go, bringing healing to the world around us. Whether you work in schools, government, or any other field, you have the power to infuse hope and healing.
Living as offspring of the King means rejecting the lie and embracing the truth. Our hope doesn’t rest in being our own gods but in trusting the one true God. By doing so, we breathe life and hope that come solely from Him. This isn’t about moral codes or political ideologies; it’s about what we believe in our hearts. So, stand firm in the truth, and let your hope be in Jesus alone.
Let’s be refreshed today, knowing that our hope is not in human institutions but in Jesus. As we commit our hearts fully to Him, we can be freed from the curse of sin and walk confidently. Our circumstances may change, and the world might be chaotic, but our hope in Jesus remains steadfast. Trust in His leadership and let His truth and life course through you, bringing confidence and peace in all situations.
