Series: Imago Dei

Book: Genesis

Welcome to our journey into the profound concept of ‘Imago Dei,’ which means ‘Image of God.’ Over the past few weeks, we have explored what it means to be human, molded in the image of God, and how this shapes our everyday lives. As we wrap up this enlightening series, join us as we delve deeper into how our creation in God’s image impacts our need for Him and each other. Being made in God’s image intrinsically links us to Him. Humanity was never designed to function independently of God. Sin disrupted this divine connection, creating a chasm. However, Jesus Christ, God’s incarnate Son, bridged this divide through His sacrifice, enabling us to reconnect with God as intended. This reconnection is essential for fulfilling our true purpose—living in communion with the Father. In addition to needing God, we are equally designed to need each other. Our discussions have emphasized the importance of belonging, mattering, seeking protection, and guidance—core elements ingrained in our God-designed DNA. While God encompasses all these needs, He also structured our lives to depend on human relationships, creating a beautiful symbiosis between divine and human connections. Understanding our need for God and each other leaves us with the challenge of living out this truth.

How do we step into our purpose fully? It starts with reflecting God’s greatness and glory. As image-bearers, our primary purpose is to reflect His majesty to the world, much like the skies declare His glory. Regardless of our achievements or the scale of our impact, we all have the capacity to reflect Christ uniquely. The enemy strives to keep us from recognizing and reflecting God’s glory. As stated in 2 Corinthians 4:3-4, the god of this world blinds the minds of unbelievers to prevent them from seeing the light of the gospel of Christ’s glory. This deception aims to obstruct us from embracing our role as God’s image-bearers. However, by laying down our lives and saying ‘yes’ to Christ, we reclaim our original purpose to image God. Reflecting God’s glory does not require grand gestures or monumental achievements. It is in the mundane, everyday moments that we can profoundly impact the world. Whether on a Tuesday afternoon or during a busy Thursday, each moment carries the potential for us to reflect God’s glory. Our lives are far from mundane in God’s eyes because we carry Christ’s glory within us every day.

1. **Daily Dependence on God:** Begin each day by acknowledging your need for God. Whether in the morning, afternoon, or evening, take a moment to receive from Him. This practice ensures we are not performing but genuinely living out of the fullness we receive from God.

2. **Identify Your Needs:** Come to God with your specific needs—wisdom, strength, peace, or guidance. Bringing these to God prevents us from seeking fulfillment in worldly things that cannot satisfy.

3. **Communicate With Each Other:** Once we receive from God, we can share our lives with others. Expressing our needs and being open about our struggles fosters genuine community and mutual support.

4. **Carry Gratitude:** Embrace a heart of gratitude. Recognize what God is doing in your life and express thankfulness. Gratitude shifts our perspective and helps us appreciate God’s faithfulness in everyday moments.

5. **Give Hope:** Be a beacon of hope in a world often consumed with negativity. Share your story, your testimony, and be transparent about your journey. Your unique experiences can provide hope and encouragement to others.

When we consistently receive from God, we are equipped to give away the life He pours into us. This filling is essential for making a meaningful impact in our relationships, workplaces, and communities. Each person’s unique reflections of God enrich the collective experience of His image in the world. Being made in the image of God is a profound truth that shapes every aspect of our lives. It calls us to a deeper connection with God and each other, to live purposefully, and to reflect His glory in all we do. As we continue to explore and embrace this truth, let us step out with confidence, knowing that our everyday actions and attitudes have the power to display God’s greatness to the world.
